Since opening our doors in 1996, our store has been a favorite of locals and tourists alike to stop in and find that special ornament or a gift year after year. The store started as a vision of the late Jan Shafer who originally opened the beginnings of the Christmas Chalet in a small corner of what was at the time Englanders Pharmacy in Oakland, Maryland.

With a dream of having the Christmas shop at Deep Creek Lake, she and her husband Gary, were able to make the dream a reality in what is now over 25 years of business in our current location on Garrett Highway.

While the lake has changed over the years, we have tried to stay true to the Christmas spirit year-round by offering not only classic decorations and ornaments but new and unique items every year.

Our staff, collectively known as “the elves”, is always available to help you find a special gift, personalize that special ornament or help you find just what you’re looking for when you stop in at the store. We have had a wonderful group of elves over the years, and current staff has many years of experience working in the store.
